Upscale Jazz Lounge Coming to Harbor Square
SUISUN CITY - Plans for a jazz and entertainment club were recently approved for the new Harbor Square development in the heart of Suisun City's Waterfront District.
The Planning Commission unanimously approved a permit that could pave the way for the first upscale live music and entertainment club to locate in the rejuvenated Waterfront District.
Designed for a 3,500-square-foot ground floor space at the corner of Main Street and Solano Street, the new club is expected to open by September. "Dimitri's Lounge by the Bay" will complement nearby restaurants and the new Cast Iron Grill & Bar, which will open in early July in a neighboring Harbor Square suite.
"The proposed lounge is a compatible fit and will help enhance and promote bringing people downtown to enjoy the promenade, our restaurants and listen to some live jazz or similar type of music," according to the planning staff report to the commission.
Local businessman Demetrius Mance wants the upscale music club to provide an entertainment option not available anywhere else in the region. Though Suisun City has had successful outdoor concerts for years, the lounge will take that experience to the next level by bringing it indoors and extending it year-round.
The lounge will operate evenings up to seven days a week with a wide variety of entertainment, including live music (such as jazz, blues, salsa, rhythm & blues, international, folk or country), youth nights, senior dance activities, poetry readings, comedy performances and even private events, such as wedding receptions.
The club will have a full service bar and a small kitchen for appetizer service. Dimitri's will have an established dress code for live performances.
A venue for live music and entertainment was a key element of Suisun City's plans for revitalizing the Waterfront District. Building upon the diverse family-owned restaurants already located in the District, City officials expected to add elements such as a music lounge to create a unique regional entertainment destination.
Harbor Square is a 40,000-square-foot mixed-use building located at Main and Solano Streets in Suisun City's Waterfront District. A Subway Sandwiches shop opened nearby in April. The Cast Iron Grill & Bar Restaurant by local restaurateur Bob Tooke is set to open in early July. The second floor is dedicated to office space.
